The best file managers for Android

The best file managers for Android

The best file managers for Android

The Android OS is good, including the fact that the user has full access to the file system and the ability to use file managers to work with it (and if you have root access, even more, full access). However, not all file managers are equally good and free, they have a sufficient set of functions and are presented in Russian.
In this article, a list of the best file managers for Android (mostly free or shareware), a description of their functions, features, some interface solutions and other details that may serve in favor of choosing one or another of them. See also: The best launchers for Android, How to clear the memory on Android. There is also an official and simple file manager with the ability to clear Android memory - Files By Google, if you do not need any complex functions, I recommend trying it.

ES Explorer (ES File Explorer)

Main window ES Explorer
ES Explorer is probably the most popular file manager for Android, equipped with all the necessary functions for managing files. Completely free and in Russian.
The appendix contains all the standard features, such as copying, moving, renaming and deleting folders and files. In addition, there is a grouping of media files, work with different locations of internal memory, preview images, built-in tools for working with archives.
And finally, ES Explorer can work with cloud storage (Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, and others), supports FTP and local area network connection. There is also an Android application manager.
Network folders in ES Explorer
To summarize, ES File Explorer has almost everything that may be required from the file manager on Android. However, it is worth noting that its latest versions have become perceived by users no longer so unequivocally: it is reported about pop-up messages, deterioration of the interface (from the point of view of some users) and other changes that speak in favor of searching for another application for these purposes.

X-Plore File Manager

X-Plore is a free (except for some functions) and very advanced file manager for Android phones and tablets with wide functionality. Perhaps for some of the novice users who are used to other applications of this type, it may first seem complicated, but if you figure it out, you probably don’t want to use something else.

Total Commander for Android

Total Commander's file manager is well known to old school students and not only to Windows users. His developers also presented a free file manager for Android with the same name. Android version of Total Commander is completely free without restrictions, in Russian and has the highest ratings from users.

Among the functions available in the file manager (in addition to simple operations on files and folders):
  • Two-panel interface
  • Root-access to the file system (if you have rights)
  • Plug-in support for access to USB flash drives, LAN, FTP, WebDAV
  • Sketches of images
  • Built-in archiver
  • Sending files via Bluetooth
  • Manage Android Applications

Amaze File Manager

Many of the users who abandoned ES Explorer, in a review of Amaze File Manager, left the best comments (which is a bit strange, as there are fewer functions in Amaze). This file manager is really good: simple, beautiful, concise, works fast, the Russian language and free use are present.

What with the features:
  • All necessary functions for working with files and folders
  • Support themes
  • Work with multiple panels
  • Application manager
  • Root file access if you have rights on your phone or tablet.
The result: a simple, beautiful file manager for Android without unnecessary features. Download Amaze File Manager at the official page of the program.

Cabinet

The free Cabinet file manager is still in beta (but available for download from the Play Market, in Russian), but already has and performs all the necessary functions for working with files and folders on Android at the current time. The only negative phenomenon noted by users - with some actions can slow down.

Among the functions (not counting, in fact, work with files and folders): root access, archiving (zip) support for plug-ins, a very simple and convenient interface in the style of Material Design. A little, yes, on the other hand, is nothing extra and works. Cabinet file manager page.

File Manager (Cheetah Mobile Explorer)

Suppose, the Explorer for Android from the developer Cheetah Mobile is not the coolest in terms of the interface, but, just like the two previous options, it allows you to use all of its functions completely free of charge and also has a Russian-language interface (applications with some limitations will go on).
Cheetah Mobile File Manager
Among the functions, in addition to the standard functionality of copying, pasting, moving and deleting, the Explorer includes:
  • Cloud storage support, including Yandex Disk, Google Drive, OneDrive and others.
  • File transfer over Wi-Fi
  • Supports file transfer using FTP, WebDav, LAN / SMB protocols, including the ability to stream media over the specified protocols.
  • Built-in archiver
Perhaps, this application also has almost everything that a regular user may need and the only controversial point is his interface. On the other hand, it is likely that you will like it. The official file manager page on the Play Store: File Manager (Cheetah Mobile).

Solid Explorer

Now about the outstanding features of these or other, but partially paid file managers for Android. The first one is Solid Explorer. Among the properties is an excellent interface in Russian, with the possibility of including several independent “windows”, analyzing the contents of memory cards, internal memory, individual folders, embedded media viewing, connecting cloud storages (including Yandex Disk), LAN, and also via all common transmission protocols data (FTP, WebDAV, SFTP).

Additionally, there is support for themes, built-in archiver (unpacking and creating archives) ZIP, 7z and RAR, Root access, support for Chromecast and plug-ins.
Cloud Storage in Solid Explorer
Among other features of the Solid Explorer file manager is setting up the design and quick access to bookmark folders directly from the Android home screen (long icon retention), as in the screenshot below.
Solid Explorer Personalization
I strongly recommend to try: the first week is completely free (all features are available), and then you yourself may decide that this is the file manager you needed. Download Solid Explorer here: application page on Google Play.

Mi Explorer

Mi Explorer (Mi File Explorer) is familiar to owners of Xiaomi phones but is perfectly installed on other Android phones and tablets.
Mi Explorer File Manager
The set of functions is about the same as in other file managers, from the additional - built-in cleaning of Android memory and support for transferring files via Mi Drop (if there is an appropriate application). The disadvantage, judging by the user reviews, maybe advertising.
You can download Mi Explorer from the Play Market: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mi.android.globalFileexplorer

ASUS File Manager

And another good proprietary file manager for Android, available on third-party devices - Asus File Explorer. Distinctive features: minimalism and usability, especially for the novice user.

There are not so many additional functions, i.e. basically working with your files, folders, and media files (which are categorized). Is that there is support for cloud storage - Google Drive, OneDrive, Yandex Disk, and corporate ASUS WebStorage.

ASUS File Manager is available for download on the official page https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asus.filemanager

FX File Explorer

FX File Explorer is the only file manager in the review that does not have Russian but deserves attention. Some functions in the application are available free of charge and permanently, some require payment (connecting network storages, encryption, for example).
FX File Explorer Main Menu
Simple management of files and folders, while in the mode of two independent windows is available for free, while, in my opinion, in a well-made interface. Among other things, supports add-ons (plug-ins), the clipboard, and when viewing media files - thumbnails instead of icons with the ability to resize.
File Manager FX File Explorer
What else? Support archives Zip, GZip, 7zip and more, unpacking RAR, built-in media player and HEX editor (as well as a plain text editor), convenient file sorting tools, transferring files via Wi-Fi from phone to phone, support for transferring files through a browser ( as in AirDroid ) and that's not all.
Despite the abundance of functions, the application is quite compact and convenient and, if you haven’t stopped at anything, and there are no problems with English, you should also try FX File Explorer. You can download from the official page.
In fact, there are countless file managers available for free download on Google Play. In this article, I tried to indicate only those that have already earned excellent user reviews and popularity. However, if you have something to add to the list - write about your version in the comments
